The Saint Louis Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Support Group

Volunteers Needed - Please Help

The St. Louis OCD Support Group’s mission is to provide information and support for people with OCD, their families, and other support people.  We are proud that we have been able to provide a quality educational / lecture series as well as being a support group for over 15 years.  In order to continue providing a quality program, we are in need of additional volunteers.

We need volunteers to help with:

  • Notifying the Local Newspapers, Journals, Radio Stations, etc. to post our meeting dates.  This can be done from the comfort and convenience of your home.  To begin just locate a local newspaper or magazine that you think would list our meeting notices.  If possible acquire their contact information or website address.  Send this information to webmaster@stlocd.org and we will work with the media to get our meeting listed in their calendar.
  • Place our meeting notice flyers at local libraries.  You can print a copy of our meeting notice by clicking here. Then take the meeting notice with you on your usual trip to the library.  Ask one of the librarians to post the notice or if it is ok for you to post it.  Our information indicates that the public libraries will post non-profit organization's information.
  • Contacting different professionals and organizations to provide speakers for our meetings.  This can be as simple as asking your own psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker if they would like to present a topic to the STL OCD Support Group.  Presentations are usually 1 hour or less.  Once you find someone who agrees, send their contact information to stlocd@swbell.net so we can get in contact with them and schedule them to speak at one of our meetings.

  • Contact your mental health provider to see if they will post our meeting notice in their office.  You can print a copy of our meeting notice by clicking here. Then take the meeting notice with you on your next appointment.  Alternatively, send the contact information to webmaster@stlocd.org and we will handle mailing out a copy of the flyer to the provider.
  • Updating the professional mailing list.  We need help identifying treatment providers to add to list and to obtain e-mail address when possible.   Contact stlocd@swbell.net.
  • Updating our Website.  This item is covered from the actual grunt work of getting new material onto the website and keeping the website up to date.
  • Proofreading our Website.  Our webmaster could really use help with this one.  While we attempt to spell check and review our content, it can always be improved.  By simply reading through the various web pages you can learn quite a bit about OCD and also bring a new perspective to the website contents.  This would be especially helpful on the Article/Downloads page where I am sure the short descriptions of the articles could be improved.  Also on the Suggested Reading and Readings pages.  Send all corrections or improvements to webmaster@stlocd.org
  • Researching new material to add to our website or to link to from our website.  We are always looking for new and more up to date articles or websites to include on stlocd.org.  Just by using Google or another search engine you can learn a lot about OCD and help improve our articles and links.  Just send the new article or link to webmaster@stlocd.org.
  • Preparing Meeting Room and Greeting attendees.  Persons are needed to arrive at the meeting room 30 minutes before the meeting  begins at 10:00.  Place signs around the around the hospital to direct people to the room, greet attendees when they arrive, set up refreshments and correspondence at the table and help with the room arrangement if needed.
  • Help with getting the mailings stuffed, sealed, and stamped.  The group can use help with preparing the flyers for mailing.  We are also looking for ways to improve quality and format of the quarterly mailing.  Future projects include creating a newsletter.  If you are interested contact us at: stlocd@swbell.net.
We do not expect anyone to do any of these items by themselves but we hope to add to our team of volunteers.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in helping out please contact us at stlocd@swbell.net
